Your
comfort is our major concern. We practice modern dentistry in a comfortable
relaxed atmosphere and the goal of our caring professional staff is to make
your visit as comfortable as possible.
Comfort and relaxation begin when you walk in the door. Our reception room
is designed to make you feel at home in a soothing stress free environment.
For most dental procedures the use of an anesthetic is
necessary.
The type of anesthetic you may need is tailored to the type of dental
procedure your are going to have done.
Topical Anesthetic
A topical anesthetic is a liquid or gel that is used to numb
the gums before an injection of local anesthetic is given. This pre
treatment of the gums takes the sting out of using local anesthetic.
Local Anesthetic
Commonly referred to as Novocain, local anesthetic is used to
"numb" the mouth in the area where work is to be done. The are
several types and strengths of local anesthetic your dentist may use
depending upon the dental treatment being done, and the length of time an
anesthetic is needed. Anesthetics today are fast acting and extremely safe.
Conscious Sedation
Nitrous
oxide (laughing gas) is sometimes used for sedation in the dental office.
Some people need some help to relax. Conscious sedation will help you feel
calm, yet rational and responsive during your treatment. Nitrous oxide is
usually administered along with local aesthetic for dental procedures.
General Anesthetic
Some complex dental procedures are best done with the patient
unconscious. Some dentists have special training and do general anesthetic
in their office. If your dentist does not do general anesthetic he may be
able to refer you to someone who does.
Anti-Anxiety Medication, Sedatives, Analgesics
Your dentist may decide to give you an oral medication to
help you with anxiety. These medications can supplement local anesthetics
to make your visit to the dentist more pleasant.
Always let your dentist know how you feel. He has many medications and
treatments at his disposal.
Modern anesthetics and analgesics have virtually eliminated
the discomfort and pain of dental procedures.
