Malocclusion occurs when the teeth do not meet in proper
alignment. It can occur because the teeth are crowded out of proper
alignment when they develop and come into the mouth. Malocclusion can occur
from the loss of permanent teeth or early loss of baby teeth.

Regardless of the reason, malocclusion puts abnormal force on
the teeth. This can cause excessive tooth wear. It can cause destruction of
the jaw bone that holds the teeth in place and then the teeth move further
out of alignment.

Orthodontics is often the
treatment of choice for malocclusion. Minor occlusion problems can be
corrected with crowns or bridges.
Sometime a partial denture or implant will help correct the problem.
Malocclusion can also cause TMJ problems and pain
