Pain in your mouth is always an indication of a serious
problem. Contact your dentist immediately. Clean
the painful area with a brush and floss. Some pain is soothed by warm, some
by cold. Try some of each to see how the pain behaves.
Take aspirin or Motrin if not allergic. DO NOT put aspirin on the tooth or
gum itself. It will burn and worsen the tooth. Ambesol will sometimes help
dental pain as a temporary measure.
Distinguish between sensitivity
and pain. It is not uncommon for teeth to be sensitive. Pain is intense and
long lasting, where sensitivity is not.
